Welcome back to the New Year at ADS

We hope you had a very Happy New Year!
A big welcome back to all continuing students and families.

A warm welcome to all new students and their families.

We were extremely happy with last term’s productions at Doncaster Playhouse Theatre and were very proud of all of our students.  Mostly we just loved seeing the children having lots of fun up on stage, in front of their family and friends.

2012 is looking to be an exciting year for Action Drama Studio (ADS) as we continue to grow and expand.  We will be offering a few new services this year such as professional development for teachers and weekend workshops for adults.  We will also be launching a new website and starting an acting agency for youth and adults.

About ADS
We teach through a reward system and positive reinforcement.  We teach new skills and offer positive suggestions, whilst avoiding criticism.
We custom design the curriculum to suit the particular children in each class.
Every class is fast paced and fun.

Introducing ‘Action Acting Agency’
In February 2012 we will be opening an acting agency for youth and adults only.  This decision has come out of a need for our interested students to be represented for work with an agent they can trust, who will not overcharge them, who is familiar with their talents and understands what they have to offer.  As ADS staff have worked as professional actors, we have the knowledge and understanding of the industry to enable us to effectively represent our members.

Demonstrations and performances
At the last lesson of  Terms 1 and 2, all parents and friends are welcome to come to the studio and watch a student demonstration so you can see the types of activities we do at  ADS. More info will be given closer to the day.
At the end of Term 4, parents and friends will be invited to see their child in a class play, held at a theatre.  Students start preparing for this performance half way through Term 3.

Term 3 Starting Soon!

Term 3 at Action Drama Studio will have an extra focus on Film and TV acting techniques in the first 5 weeks of term.  Children and teenagers will be creating and performing movie scenes and working on Film and TV scripts. In the second half of term we will make a start on preparing for Term 4 productions.

July Holiday Program
As per usual, there will be two workshops on offer in the holidays.
Primary workshop for ages 7-11
The primary workshop will give children the opportunity to act to camera, to create their own scenes and also work from a script.  Amy and Simon, our very popular drama teachers will be running this workshop.
Youth workshop for ages 12-17
Following the success of our last Youth workshop, Jeremy Kewley will once again be running the Youth workshop, supported by Amy.  The workshop will focus on working in the Film and TV industry and the different types of acting styles to suit different acting briefs e.g. commercials, TV series, films.

Please register as soon as possible by filling in the online form, available at:

Bring a Friend Day
It is always ‘Bring A Friend’ day in week 3 of term. On Bring a friend day, students are able to bring a friend for one free lesson.  Bring a Friend Day is an opportunity for students to have fun at drama with a friend of their choice. This friend should be in the right age range for the class and someone who has not been to ADS drama classes before.
If your child has a friend who has an interest in drama and would like to give it a try at another time during the term, please email or phone Suzanne to arrange.

Musical Theatre
The musical theatre class at Briar Hill has kicked off well with a group of students who have been happily singing, dancing and acting the term away.  The age range of the group is 10-13 years and the class takes place Thursdays 5:00-6:30pm. If there is sufficient interest we will also be starting a musical theatre class in Watsonia and Fitzroy - both classes on Saturday mornings. Let Suzanne know if your child has any interest in joining one of these classes.
3 week trials are available at these classes. That is, pay for two classes and receive a third class free.
Please see the locations page for more details:

Adult Classes
Why should kids have all the fun? Have you considered giving acting a go? Our adult classes are designed for beginners to intermediate level. The classes cater for adult students who are interested in acting for personal development, for career or just for fun.  Our classes have a whole range of ages represented. We now have classes on offer in North Carlton, Ivanhoe, Box Hill and Hawthorn.

A second intake will occur on October 21 with an information session held on Sept 9.  If you have an interest joining the agency, please keep both of these dates free.
